The Montpelier takes its name from James Madison’s historic estate, a place where intellect, artistry, and vision came together. It stands as a symbol of achievement, both in craft and in spirit. For 1776 Atelier, it represents the pinnacle of our pursuit, a timepiece born from relentless refinement where every surface has been touched, every edge perfected, and every detail shaped by hand.
Deliveries begin December 1st.
The Montpelier is a study in harmony between strength and grace, tradition and innovation. Every surface, from the tiniest screw to the largest bridge, reflects the devotion of countless hours at the bench. It stands as one of the pinnacles of American horology, a timepiece that embodies the belief that beauty is not manufactured; it is made, one detail at a time.

The Montpelier houses a 19-jewel manual-wind movement, an evolution of the Monticello’s design. Two additional jewels have been added to fully support the mainspring barrel, reducing friction during power delivery and ensuring smoother, more efficient transmission through the gear train. The barrel cover is double solarization ground, its surface rippling with light as it unwinds.
Even the escape wheel and the shock absorber setting on the back of the movement have been solarized and snailed. Most would ignore these details, but we chose to finish them with the same care as any visible surface, demonstrating what true horology can express when every component is treated as a canvas for craft. When the watch comes alive, the escape wheel flickers with motion and light, while on the reverse side, the solarization-ground shock absorber setting dances in harmony with the balance beneath it.
The relocated click is no longer an afterthought but an integral part of the design. It is mechanically beautiful yet subtle, positioned near the edge of the movement where it draws the eye outward. It blends seamlessly into the architecture of the bridges, becoming both functional and aesthetic, a true extension of the watch’s mechanical language.
The Montpelier’s case is sculpted from 316L stainless steel, measuring 41 millimeters in diameter and only 10.2 millimeters in height. The concave bezel flows seamlessly into chamfered lugs, creating a continuous, fluid silhouette. The spiral-fluted crown echoes the geometry within the movement, completing the dialogue between form and function.
The hands are shaped and polished entirely by hand from solid steel and thermally blued using the traditional flame-heating technique. Each pair reflects the unique character of artisanal craftsmanship, creating subtle variations that distinguish every Montpelier.
